CHAPTER ONE:BUSINESS DRIVEN TECHNOLOGY

This is summary from chapter one "Business Driven Technology" that I make. As we know when we have technology advance, we can make business such as business on-line and advertisement.

Information Technology’s Role in Business:

-We have to study information technology because information technology is everywhere in business.

-Understanding information technology provides great in sight to anyone learning about business.

-the magazines articles typically discuss such topics as databases, customer relationship management, and web service and so on. Furthermore they also focus on companies.

-it is easy to demonstrate information technology’s role in business by reviewing a copy of popular business magazines such as Bloomberg Business.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY BASICS:

1.INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (IT)-Information technology (IT) is a field concerned with the use of technology in managing and processing information. It is also quite large, covering many fields that deal with the use of electronic computers and computer software to convert, store, protect, process, transmit and retrieve information securely. Moreover, it can be an important enabler of business success and innovation. Information technology not useful unless the right people know how to use and manage it effectively.

2.MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM (MIS)-Management information system (MIS) is a business function just as marketing, finance, operations and human resources. Management information system (MIS) is a general name for the business function and academic discipline covering the application of people, technologies, and procedures-collectively called information systems-to solve business problems. Furthermore, it is important to understand the several things. First is data, information and business intelligence. Second is IT resources. Next is the challenge: departmental companies, and last is the solution: management information systems.It is important to understand following:-

-data, information and business intelligence : data is raw fact describes the characteristic, information is data converted into a meaningful and useful context and business intelligence is application and technologies that are used to gather, provide access and analyze data and information.

-IT resources: people use, information technology to work with and information

-IT cultures: it has the organization culture. That is:

-INFORMATION-FUNCTIONAL CULTURE

·       Employees use information as a means of exercising influence or power over others.

-INFORMATION-SHARING CULTURE

·       Employees across departments trust each other to use information (especially about problems and failures) to improve performance.

-INFORMATION-INQUIRING CULTURE

·      Employees across departments search for information to better understand the future and align themselves with current trends and new directions.

-INFORMATION-DISCOVERY CULTURE

·      Employees across departments are open to new insights about crises and radical changes and seek ways to create competitive advantages.
